What do you mean by a 'challenge'? How does this work?

The 'EYMaths Challenges' are one of our most popular events.

Run three times a year, our aim is to give EVERYONE who wants to work with us a chance to come together and learn as one AMAZING community.

Run over 10 days, the 'challenge' consists of:

  • Expert advice on how to use simple, everyday resources to teach subitising, five and ten frames, number bonds, early addition and subtraction and more!
  • Snack-sized online videos created by Karen to explaining how to teach and plan 'Numbers 1-10' with 3-5 year olds
  • All recorded and accessed easily through personal online library (held on the EYMaths website)
  • The opportunity to join Karen LIVE for expert teaching and Q&A
  • An invitation to join our exclusive online community to share ideas and learn from our many experienced members who've trained with EYMaths the longest (and always join in!)
  • Certificate of completion
  • PLUS PRIZES to be won throughout the challenge!

 What will I learn?

So much! Here are a just a few examples of what we'll cover...

What is 'Subitising' (and is it really just about dice patterns)?

You may never have heard of this word (that's where we all start), or perhaps you are at the stage of wondering how to pronounce it? (Believe me, that's not very important 😀)

Join us for this challenge and you'll come away wondering why no-one told you about this super power sooner!

Get ready for the #wowbombs!

Why Teach Using 5 and 10 Frames (and what are they)?

I spent the whole of my teaching career not knowing what 5 and 10 frames were. I don't want the same to happen to you.

Simply the easiest and BEST way I've ever come across to help children learn to visualise numbers as quantities (an essential skill for mathematical fluency later on) allowing them to compare amounts, learn number bonds and understand how addition and subtraction work.

Simply brilliant

How Can I Make The Learning Meaningful and Engaging?

Teaching Maths all too often ends up being about memorising. (The easiest way I know to turn someone off learning this amazing subject)

Instead, when we teach using meaningful contexts such as the outdoors, through exciting games, using everyday routines at home and in our school or settings, then we truly engage the brain and allow deep, long-lasting learning to be created.

Goodbye 'memorising' and hello creating 'memories'

Who is this challenge aimed at?

Great question! It's...

Perfect for you if you work in a school and already follow a scheme

At EYMaths our passion is giving practitioners, just like you, the essential tools they need to teach Maths brilliantly!

This means with confidence, skill and enjoyment.

Unlike a scheme, we won't just give you activities, we'll make sure you develop the subject knowledge you need to understand the Maths and a whole tool box of approaches to help you deliver your scheme FAR more effectively.

At EYMaths, we call this becoming a 'user' and not a 'follower'

Perfect for you if you're a pre-school practitioner teaching younger children

Working in a pre-school may mean you have greater freedom to choose how you teach Maths but that can leave you with too much choice.

You may end up wondering:

  • What is the BEST way to teach our learners Maths when they are so young?
  • What  can we plan that makes Maths meaningful to them?
  • How can we teach our very young children effectively with very few resources and a limited budget?

We understand completely and our aim to to make our training accessible to EVERYONE who wants to improve their knowledge, skills and understanding about how young children learn Maths.

In this challenge we'll make sure you come away with an essential tool box of approaches, activities and resources to do just that.

Perfect for parents and families

If you're a school or setting that are signing up to join us, why not invite the parents and families of your children too?

Imagine how much easier your life if the messages at home aligned with those in your school or setting?

Poster for Parents and Families

To help you do this, we'll be sharing a special poster (which you can edit to add your school or setting name) which includes a special QR code that can be simply scanned to take them directly to this webpage to sign up. Super easy.

All of the activities, videos and resources will use loose parts and everyday items making it easy for everyone who wishes to to take part.

Anna Murgatroyd, Early Years Teacher

'Five and ten frames have transformed the teaching and learning in our classroom! I can’t believe I didn’t realise their value before. You don’t know what you don’t know YET!

Oh and 'cognitive load' - so many wow bombs!! Game changing! 🤩'

LIVE Teaching and Q&A Sessions with Karen

No need to worry about having to book or show your face. It's only Karen on screen 😊

There will be 5 calls of approximately 30 mins spread out over the 10 days. These very special opportunities to receive Karen's advice and support will be run on different days and times to allow you to join at least one wherever you are in the world.

We'll even give you a special calendar showing you when all of the live sessions are so you never miss a thing!
